"For so work the honey-bees..."

"For so work the honey-bees, creatures that by a rule in nature teach the act of order to a peopled kingdom."
--William Shakespeare (Henry V, Act 1 Scene 2)

Wild "Sweet William" (Woodland Phlox - phlox divaricata) undergoing inspection by a bee.

Woodland phlox is a common wildflower throughout the Ozarks in early spring, with a huge variety of color ranging from near-white with lavender accents to deep violet. They're a welcome sight - once the phlox arrives, springtime is here to stay.

Upper Ogden Creek, Madison County, near Pettigrew AR.
