We just called it home... #5
Late summer view of the W. F. (Fletcher) Keck cabin, SE Madison County, near Pettigrew, AR.
These old cabin sites fascinate me. It's common to find fireplaces as heaps of rubble, but whoever did the stonework on this one did it right. The fireplace and chimney still stand, more or less intact, despite the fact that the lintel stone split.
Foundation lines for the building are still mostly visible, though the forest is always working to reclaim its own. This was a whole lot of fireplace for a relatively small cabin -- but the location is open to the south and west, and getting throug a hard winter season would have demanded a lot of firewood.
